In this article you will learn how to use the 'Suspense accounts, Accrued assets and liabilities, Other receivables and payables' template within the working file. This template helps you identify accounts that should have no balance or only a temporary balance, and to clarify any discrepancies.

What does the template ‘Suspense accounts, Accrued assets and liabilities, Other receivables and payables’ do?

The template automatically displays all suspense accounts and accruals that should in principle not carry a structural balance. It is used to verify whether these accounts have been correctly closed off, or whether there are still outstanding amounts that require further investigation.

Examples of accounts that are checked include:

  • Suspense accounts (e.g. transfers, private withdrawals, payroll journal entries)
  • Accrued assets (amounts still to be received, prepaid expenses)
  • Accrued liabilities (costs still to be paid, deferred income)
  • Accrued receivables and payables

How do you use this template?

  •  The template automatically displays all relevant accounts with their closing balance.
  • When a balance is present that exceeds the set threshold, you must provide an explanation.
  • For each line you can add a clarification or attachment (for example a supporting document or internal explanation).
  • At the bottom of the template you can add a final approval once all balances have been reviewed.

What should you keep in mind when using this template?

  • Check all accounts with a balance above the set threshold.
  • Add an explanation or attachment for each discrepancy as supporting evidence.
  • Add a final approval at the bottom of the template once the review has been completed.
