This template is a read-only roll-up of the Biological Assets Register / Capital Herd template. It presents the same category-by-category movements (cost, depreciation and net book value, or fair value) as one combined summary with totals, and flags if the register does not agree with the trial balance. There is nothing to complete independently; it simply displays what is already in the register.

When should I use this template?
Whenever the Biological Assets Register / Capital Herd template is in use. This summary compiles automatically from that register, so you do not set anything up here yourself.
Before you start
Complete the Biological Assets Register / Capital Herd template first. This template has no data entry of its own, so it only shows figures once the register holds data for at least one category.
Background
Because FRS 102 allows each class of biological asset to be measured at cost or at fair value, this summary presents two separate tables, one for the categories being measured at cost and one for those measured at fair value, so each basis shows its own movements.
Steps
- Open the template. If any category is on the cost basis, a Cost table appears first, showing each category's brought-forward cost, additions, revaluation/impairment, disposals (and harvested value, for crop categories), and closing cost, alongside the equivalent depreciation movements and the net book value at the current and prior period ends.
- If any category is on the fair value basis, a Fair value table appears next, showing brought-forward fair value, additions, revaluation for the year, disposals (and harvested value for crops), and closing fair value at the current and prior period ends.
- Totals are shown at the foot of each table.
- If the total net book value or fair value in the register does not agree with the trial balance, a warning appears at the top of the summary, stating the correct accounts balance and linking back to the register so you can find and fix the difference.
- You can optionally tick Enable Hire Purchase summary to show a further breakdown of any assets flagged as bought on hire purchase. This is inherited from the same layout used for fixed assets and is not normally relevant to livestock or growing crops, so it can usually be left unticked.
What flows through to the rest of the accounts/workflow?
Nothing further flows from the summary itself. It is a presentation layer only, reflecting the register.
What rolls forward next year?
Nothing is entered or stored here, so there is nothing to roll forward. The summary always reflects whatever is currently in the Biological Assets Register / Capital Herd template for the period you are viewing.
Where the data comes from
Every figure shown is read directly from the Biological Assets Register / Capital Herd template.
Frequently asked questions
Why is this template empty?
The Biological Assets Register / Capital Herd template has not been completed yet, or none of its categories currently hold a balance.
Why do I only see one of the two tables?
The other table only appears if at least one category in the register uses that valuation basis. If every category is on the cost basis, you will not see a Fair value table, and vice versa.
Can I edit figures here?
No, every figure comes from the register. Make any corrections there and they will flow through automatically
