The Share capital account reconciliation is a lightweight account template that links a share capital nominal code to the Share capital reconciliation. It does not ask you to enter any figures itself: it simply checks that the account is included in the Share capital reconciliation and displays that template's reconciliation status against the account.

When should I use this template?
Assign this template to each share capital nominal code in the trial balance. It is designed to be used alongside the Share capital reconciliation, the reconciliation-level template covered in How do I use the Statutory Information, Share Capital reconciliation & Dividend Reconciliations? (UK market). That is where the actual share class detail is recorded: classes of share, nominal values, issued numbers and movements in the period.
Before you start
- Set up the Share capital reconciliation first and select the relevant nominal code or codes there using its account selector.
- Then assign this account template to each of those same share capital codes. Open the account in Working Papers, click Edit, and select the template.
Background
This account template does not capture any share capital detail of its own. It is the per-account face of the Share capital reconciliation, so that a reconciliation dot is visible against each share capital nominal code individually, not just on the reconciliation as a whole.
Because it mirrors the Share capital reconciliation, the same category and class structure that lands in the accounts note also underpins statutory filings such as the confirmation statement and the SH01 / statement of capital forms filed at Companies House.
Steps
- Confirm the nominal code has already been selected in the Share capital reconciliation's account selector.
- Assign the Share capital account reconciliation template to the account.
- If the account has not been selected in the Share capital reconciliation yet, the template shows a warning telling you to add it there (or to use a different account template), and marks the whole account balance as unreconciled until you do.
- Once the account is selected in the Share capital reconciliation, this template shows a link back to it along with the difference to explain calculated there, and the same reconciliation dot: green if it reconciles, red with the difference if it does not.
- Resolve any difference by working in the Share capital reconciliation itself, for example by entering an explanation or attachment against a rounding difference. The status shown here updates automatically.
What flows through to the rest of the accounts/workflow?
Nothing is calculated on this template. It only displays the reconciliation status that the Share capital reconciliation has already worked out. The actual figures behind the Called up share capital & reserves note come from the Share capital reconciliation, as described in the existing article on the Statutory Information, Share Capital reconciliation & Dividend Reconciliations.
What rolls forward next year?
Nothing rolls forward on this template specifically. Roll forward of share class detail and movements happens on the Share capital reconciliation.
Where the data comes from
All of the underlying data, including share classes, nominal values, issued numbers and movements, is entered on the Share capital reconciliation. This template only reads the account selection and reconciliation result from there.
Frequently asked questions
Why does this account show a warning even though I've completed the Share capital reconciliation?
The account number has not been added to the account selector within the Share capital reconciliation itself. Add it there and the warning will clear.
Do I need to enter anything on this template?
No. It is a link-through to the Share capital reconciliation, and all data entry happens there.
How is this different from the Share capital reconciliation covered in the existing Statutory Information article?
That article covers the reconciliation-level template, where you select accounts and record share class detail. This account template is what you assign to the individual nominal code or codes, so the reconciliation status is visible against each one in Working Papers.
