Steps to Manage Access
Generally Accessible Files
- Within Silverfin, you can set a file to be generally accessible. This means that all staff members added to Silverfin can access the file.
Making Files Private
- You can also make a file private by unchecking a box during creation. This shields the file, allowing only selected users to access it. Don't forget to add a file manager to ensure proper management!
Making Files Private at the client file level
- To make a file private:
- Find the file.
- Click on 'Edit file'.
- Go to the 'Users' tab.
- Uncheck 'all employees with access to multiple files' under 'Staff'.

Adjusting Access for Staff
- By default, a staff member has access to all files. When a file is private, explicit access must be granted to the user. This can be done in two ways:
- Go to the file you want to grant access to and click on 'Edit client'. Go to 'Users' and specify which users may access the file.
- At firm level, go to 'Users' under the 'Staff' tab. Click on the user's name and explicitly grant access at the bottom of the page.
- By default, a staff member has access to all files. When a file is private, explicit access must be granted to the user. This can be done in two ways:
Adjusting Access for External Users and Pulse Users
- An external user does not have access to files by default. Explicit access must be granted. This can only be done at the client file level:
- Go to the file you want to grant access to and click on 'Edit file'. Go to 'Users' and specify which users may access the file.
Please note that this option incurs additional costs. When you add an external collaborator to the file, the charges will automatically appear on your invoice.
- For Pulse users, this can be done at both levels:
- File Level:
- Go to the specific file.
- Click on 'Edit client'.
- Go to the 'Users' tab.
- Add the Pulse user to grant access.
- Office Level:
- Go to 'Users' under the 'External' tab at firm level.
- Click on the user's name.
