When you export documents or templates that include attachments, you may see a warning message related to fonts. This article explains what these warnings mean, why they occur, and what you can do about them.

Table of contents

What Does the Font Warning Mean?

  • This warning indicates that some fonts used in your PDF attachments are not supported by our system.
  •  Instead of displaying unreadable characters or dots, we automatically replace these fonts with our default supported font to ensure your export remains readable.

Is This a Blocking Error?

  • No, this is not a blocking error. The export process completes successfully, and the warning is only to inform you that some fonts have been substituted.
  • The attachments in your export might look slightly different from the originals, but the content will still be accessible and legible.

Why Are Some Fonts Not Supported?

There are two main reasons:

  1. PDF Compatibility Issues: PDF files are created by many different software tools, and font handling can vary. Sometimes fonts that work perfectly in one program may not be recognized correctly when processed by another. This causes the font substitution warnings.
  2. Legal Restrictions: Many fonts have licensing restrictions that prevent embedding or redistribution. Even if technically possible, we cannot support these fonts without proper licenses. Some fonts are legally forbidden from being embedded into PDFs.

How Can You Check Supported Fonts?

Admin user can view the list of fonts supported by our system by going to the Style Settings of any style bundle at the firm level. This helps to understand which fonts will be preserved during export.
