The Tangible Fixed Assets (reconciled through FAR) template is an account template — it sits directly on the tangible fixed asset accounts in the trial balance rather than being added as a standalone reconciliation. Its job is simple: it shows the net book value (NBV) that the relevant fixed asset register has calculated for that account's category, and whether that figure reconciles to the trial balance.

When should I use this template?
Apply this account template to any account in the trial balance that falls within the tangible fixed asset categories tracked by the Fixed Assets Register (land and buildings, plant and machinery, vehicles, fixtures and fittings, and so on).
It's designed to be the working paper for those accounts when a Fixed Assets Register (Full or Simple) has been added to the file. It will show a warning if neither version of the register is present, and a different warning if it's applied to an account that doesn't fall within a tangible fixed asset category.
Supporting the tangible fixed assets balance with a reconciled working paper, split by category, evidences the cost / depreciation / NBV movement disclosed in the accounts.
What do I need before I start?
Add the Fixed Assets Register (or the simpler FAR Simple register) to the client's file first — this template has nothing to reconcile without it.
Confirm the account you're applying it to is genuinely a tangible fixed asset account. The template checks this against the same account mapping used by the register and will refuse to render its normal content otherwise.
What is this template for?
This account template's role is to confirm, at the point of the trial balance account itself, that the net book value figure calculated in the Fixed Assets Register agrees with what's posted in the ledger — in other words, that the working paper and the accounts are consistent before the accounts are finalised.
It is a thin, read-only link between the account and the underlying register — either the Fixed Assets Register (this template's full working paper) or the simpler FAR Simple register, if that's what the client uses instead. [ADD LINK: Fixed Assets Register article]
How do I choose which register feeds the template?
If the file has both the Fixed Assets Register (Full) and FAR Simple added, a dropdown appears: FAR version to feed the current account template, with the options Simple FAR and Full FAR. Until one is selected, an unreconciled indicator shows "Please select one option".
If only one of the two registers is present, the template uses it automatically and the dropdown doesn't appear.
What does the reconciliation table show?
Once the source register is determined, the template displays a single table:
- Asset category — the category (from the 15 tracked by the Fixed Assets Register) that matches the mapped account range of the account the template is applied to.
- NBV as per workings (Full FAR) or NBV as per TB (FAR Simple) — a hyperlink through to the relevant category in the source register, showing the NBV it has calculated.
- Reconciled — an unreconciled indicator if the register's NBV for that category doesn't agree with the trial balance. Hovering shows the underlying reconciliation detail carried over from the register.
There are no other fields or controls on this template — everything is driven by the underlying register.
For a reminder of what each reconciliation status icon means, see What do reconciliation icons mean?
What flows through to the rest of the accounts?
This template doesn't itself feed anything further — it's a display and reconciliation layer on the account. The actual figures used elsewhere (the accounts note, the Summary of Fixed Assets) are produced by the Fixed Assets Register directly. This template's only output is confirmation that the account balance matches what the register calculates. [ADD LINK: Summary of Fixed Assets article]
What rolls forward next year?
Nothing is entered on this template, so there is nothing to roll forward here — it always reflects whatever the linked register currently holds. The dropdown selection (Simple FAR or Full FAR), if shown, is stored per file and will need reselecting only if the set of registers present changes.
Where does the data come from?
Inbound only: the category account ranges and NBV / reconciliation results published by the Fixed Assets Register (or FAR Simple). This template performs no calculations of its own and holds no data entry fields.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the template show a warning instead of the reconciliation table?
Either neither the Fixed Assets Register nor FAR Simple has been added to the file (add one from the template shop), or this account template has been applied to an account that isn't in one of the tangible fixed asset categories the register tracks (apply it only to accounts in that range, or use a different account template).
Why is there a dropdown asking me to choose between Simple FAR and Full FAR?
Both versions of the fixed asset register are present in the file. Choose whichever one is the correct source for this account's figures. Until you do, the template shows an unreconciled "Please select one option" indicator.
Why is the NBV shown here unreconciled?
The reconciliation is calculated in the underlying register (Fixed Assets Register or FAR Simple), not in this template — go to the linked register (via the hyperlink on the NBV figure) to investigate and resolve the difference there.
If the difference is small, it may be a rounding difference. See Fixed asset rounding differences on Silverfin (UK market).
