Visma Connect is the account system behind your Silverfin sign-in, and it sets the rules your password must meet. This article explains those password requirements, why they matter, how they are checked, and when you might be asked to set a new one. It is relevant for anyone who signs in to Silverfin with an email address and password.

What are the password requirements?

Your Visma Connect password must:

  • be at least 15 characters long;
  • not appear in a known data breach (this is checked automatically); and
  • meet no complexity rules — uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols are not required;
  • contain parts of your name or email.
Tip: a passphrase made of three or four unrelated words easily meets the 15-character minimum and is much easier to remember than a short, complex password.

Why do these rules matter?

Silverfin is moving to Visma Connect to make signing in safer and more future-proof. It adds stronger account protection — including two-factor authentication (2FA) — and gives you more flexible sign-in options, such as passkeys or Microsoft or Google sign-in. If you are asked to update your password, it is because your current one does not meet the newer security standard. Choosing a stronger password helps protect your account and the client data you work with in Silverfin.

The password rules back this up in a practical way: the automatic data-breach check blocks any password already known to have leaked, so a password reused from another site that has been compromised cannot be used to sign in to Silverfin.

How are the requirements checked?

When you set or change your password, Visma Connect checks the rules as you type:

  • The requirements appear in a tooltip next to the New password field.
  • Each rule turns green as soon as you meet it.
  • The Change password button stays disabled until every rule is met.

When will I be asked to set a new password?

Your existing password keeps working as long as it meets the requirements above, so there is usually no need to change it. You may be prompted to set a new password when:

  • your current password does not meet the policy — you are then asked to set a new one before you can continue (for example, the first time you sign in after your firm migrates to Visma Connect); or
  • you choose to change it yourself, or you have forgotten it and start a reset from the sign-in screen.

For the full step-by-step, see How do I reset my password? (Visma Connect).

What happens after I change my password?

Setting a new password signs you out of all other active sessions. You will need to sign in again on every device with your new password.

Who do these rules apply to?

  • The requirements apply to everyone who signs in to Silverfin with an email address and password.
  • Single sign-on (SSO) users sign in through their own identity provider and do not have a Visma Connect password, so this policy does not apply to them. Their password changes are handled by their IT administrator.
  • No one can set or reset your password for you — not even a firm administrator. Each user manages their own password.
